Become a Prepare/

To equip pastors, deacons, and counselors with the tools, training, and biblical foundation they need to walk alongside couples through life's hardest moments — reducing divorce, restoring communication, and leading individuals toward a lasting relationship with Jesus Christ.

My Mission:

"How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word. With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments."
- Psalm 119:9–10

Your couples need more than advice. They need a plan.

Ordained to ministry in 1976, Gene has spent nearly five decades answering the call to serve others — building a biblical counseling center from the ground up that grew into a full team, and helping three additional churches launch counseling ministries of their own.

At the heart of his work is the Prepare/Enrich program, which he has used for over 13 years to walk more than 125 couples through assessment, communication, and restoration — an approach shown to reduce divorce by 30%.

As a Board Certified Pastoral Counselor with the AACC and a registered Prepare/Enrich trainer, Gene now equips pastors, deacons, and counselors to become facilitators themselves — multiplying the impact of this life-changing tool across the local church.

In his 13 years of counseling ministry, he has had the privilege of leading many individuals to faith in Jesus Christ.

About your Trainer, Gene Willis.

My wife and I were within 60 days of divorce, ready to destroy our first 12 years of marriage, three small children, and our souls with it. We had already been living apart for months, swapping child duties each day. Our relationship was absolutely finished. We literally hated each other. One day, I dropped to my knees and prayed to take my raging anger away.

I was expecting God to brace me for the coming impact with as little feeling as possible. He had other plans. Selfless love and forgiveness. Those words kept hitting me like a ton of bricks. "Come on, God. You've GOT to be kidding me?!"

So, I started praying...a lot.

One night, after crying to my brother about wanting my wife and family back, he helped me understand that God is fighting for me...for us. I finally let go of trying to control everything and surrendered to God. Within 24 hours, my wife called me crying and wanted to come home. I said on one condition... We immediately go into marriage counseling that was Christian centered.

(We had tried secular counseling, and they all said to just do what we wanted to make ourselves happy, that the kids are resilient). We had no money whatsoever but were VERY fortunate to find the Spotswood Baptist Church nearby, which had free counseling. By the grace and mercy of God, we received an appointment with Pastor Gene Willis. On the day we were scheduled to go, our youngest son got sick, so my wife went and I stayed with him.

My wife called me immediately after and said, "Baby, I'm saved!" I said, "What!?" After she told me of her first experience with Pastor Gene, I was chomping at the bit to experience the same. That first counseling session with Pastor Gene was eye-opening, in the best way possible.

My wife and I started a one-year journey with Pastor Gene that allowed us to heal long-standing emotional wounds and, most importantly, center our lives and marriage upon Jesus Christ.

Without Pastor Gene's direct influence and love, my wife and I would never have made it. After Jesus Christ, I credit Pastor Gene with being the most influential person to us in terms of saving our marriage. 13 years later, my wife and I are very happily married and closer than ever before.

Through those years, I've sent other couples to Pastor Gene for help, and, to this day, I would not guide them to anyone else. Pastor Gene is one in a million.

My wife and I love him dearly.
